While studying in New York City this past summer, I found architectural inspiration everywhere I looked. This Upper West Side townhouse in particular caught my eye and I found myself wondering, ‘What does it look like on the inside?’ With that question and some imagination, this project came to life. I searched for elegant materials while also keeping in mind a more historic and cozy feel that I wanted to carry through each room.

I moved a lot growing up and planning how I’d make my new bedroom feel like me was something that helped me a lot during times of transition. Choosing soothing paint colors, hanging gauzy curtains, and arranging my furniture to make the most of a small space made each room feel like a sanctuary. When I recently decided to sketch and color my dream room, I allowed myself to envision a design unlimited by reality. I had to include my favorite feature: a cozy bay window reading nook, that I hope to have in my own home one day.

Among other mediums, I love working with the classic pencil and paper. One of my favorite things to sketch besides homes, is fashion. I love coming up with concepts of dresses that I find beautiful and fun, and oftentimes I’m inspired by period fashion. From sheer billowing fabrics to layered ruffles, these sketches allow me to practice working with texture and dimension.

Water colored in a hazy summer palette, this quaint cottage set on rolling hills of the English countryside has been a soothing place in my mind that I’d love to visit someday. While painting this relaxing place, I could picture a gentle breeze drifting through the Dutch door and a cobblestone path winding through patches of blooming florals.

The mushroom village is a more whimsical view of my watercolor paintings with its curvy shapes and texture I thought looked most interesting in black and white. I’d like to think fairies and tiny frogs call this place their home.

I took this collection of photos at a sunny September home football game for Jesuit Media, hoping to artistically frame the joy of the event. Capturing the moments of energy and excitement among students and friends was so much fun, and I have loved being involved in my community in a new way my senior year.
